European artist Daniela Friederike Lüers creates paintings that are a bold, colorful combination of expressionism, monochromatic photorealism, and pop art. Influenced by Gothic architecture and her love of nature, Lüers says her goal is to wake up her audience from their accustomed patterns of visual perception so that they can actively see what’s around them with new eyes. To do this, she quotes traditional themes, such as deer or angels, in bright, surprising ways. She infuses her work with a sense of inner peace, lightness, and freedom, and favors acrylic pigments applied with broad, sure brushstrokes. Lüers began her artistic career painting en plein air, with a very impressionistic style. While her style has changed and she now paints in a studio, Lüers still seeks to create work with the same sense of light, simplicity, and clarity that she loves about painting outdoors. She describes her purpose as both an artist and a human being as “healing by beautifying the world, ” and she considers her paintings a gift from herself to her viewers.
Statement of the Artist:
First there is the inspiration. I listen and then I follow as I start to prepare the paintings. I use acrylic colors and apply them with a flat brush to the large canvas; therefore you may find rough or gentle brush marks. I tend to quote traditional themes and present them in a contemporary context. It is challenging for me to awaken the audience from their habitual visual experiences and to enable the process of active perception. My paintings appear in a neutral and aesthetic way to create some open space in the soul of the recipient. My artwork is filled with loving energy and an inner peace, breathing, lightness, and freedom. This is my personal gift to the recipient and can be felt each time one views my paintings.
